“While being gluten free is hard, it has taught me so much.”
Growing up I was always able to eat whatever I wanted. I wouldn't have to worry if there would be something i could eat at party or if someone had cross contaminated a food. Life was a lot simpler when it came to eating. Once I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease I had to become more aware and responsible in order to know what I could and couldn’t eat. Having a gluten allergy made me have to think about if I should eat before a party or I would even have to look up the menu before. This allergy made it so I couldn’t go out with my friends because I worried I wouldn’t be able to eat anything or I didn’t want to tell people that I was gluten free. While being gluten free is hard, it has taught me so much. I have gained confidence in who I am through being able to stand up for myself and own the fact that I am gluten free. Dealing with this has gave me the opportunity to help others along the way. When someone new is diagnosed or they discover they have an allergy, I can help them feel comfortable. Through the research I have done myself I am able to help others know where or what they can eat. As hard as it is, I’m thankful I can help others through the had time that I know so well.
